Eden supporting Mark Steiner and His Problems Flier

A Word of Thanks from EDEN

Eden would like to extend our appreciation to everyone who came down to Tago Mago on Friday. It was a major step for Sean to return to the stage as a singer/songwriter in Melbourne after so many years, and it was special for the entire band to share that journey.Thank you to all our friends who attended. We were especially heartened to see some of our fellow Melbourne musicians working in dark and beautifully esoteric genres. A gig is worth a hundred rehearsals, and it was so lovely to share that first gig and very new repertoire with our talented peers who know exactly what that is like.

We would also like to thank Tago Mago for having us at their cruisey venue, to Robert Roberts for helping facilitate the booking, and to the very talented Mark Steiner & His Problems, and Henry Hugo, for sharing the stage with us and creating such a beautiful night of original and authentic music.

We were so heartened by the warm welcome back into the vibrant Melbourne music scene for Eden. Our thanks to you, friends!

Sean Bowley-Kramer, Andrew Kutzner, & Talie Helene

Mark Steiner & His Problems 2015 Tour

Gig > EDEN supporting MARK STEINER & HIS PROBLEMS, with HENRY HUGO

EDEN are delighted to announce we will be performing a gig supporting Mark Steiner & His Problems, with Henry Hugo, at Tago Mago in Thornbury on Friday 16th January 2015. (Admission is $10.00.)

We are performing as a three piece for this show, and there will be a mix of new songs and some classic Eden. The set will be intimate and improvisatory, with two guitars and keyboard; this is a chance to hear some new songs in their formative stage, while “the ink is still wet”, and reminisce as we dust the cobwebs off some lost treasures from ‘Fire & Rain’.

EDEN will be performing around 9.30, but we encourage punters to come along at 8pm, to enjoy the introspective songs of Henry Hugo, grace us with your presence for our first gig with this line-up, and then kick back for a treat with brooding and transcendent covers and originals from Mark Steiner.

It will be a moody and authentic gig, a journey of light and shade, narrated by some great storyteller songwriters.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

MARK STEINER & HIS PROBLEMS

Mark Steiner, a New York-via-Oslo songwriter, is plying audiences with offerings from his new album ‘Saudade’ – melancholic, darkly humorous, lounge-noir rock. A solo artist who performs with a revolving troupe of “problems”, no performance is ever the same. He is joined on the stage on the 16th by Henry Hugo, Valentina Veil & Pange Niemoeller.

‘Saudade’ is a collection of originals by Mark Steiner, including a tribute to avant-garde filmmaker, Adolfas Mekas, and select covers of songs by Billie Holiday, Lou Reed, Bruno Adams (of The Fatal Shore and Once Upon a Time), Robert Burås (of Madrugada and My Midnight Creeps), and Rowland S. Howard (of The Birthday Party, Crime & the City Solution and These Immortal Souls).

EDEN

In 1989 Sean Bowley began performing as Eden with Pieter Bourke (who went on to work with Lisa Gerrard and David Thrussell). Eden’s early recordings included the Light Between Worlds EP (Nightshift Records, 1990), and first full album Gateway to the Mysteries (Third Mind, 1992). After favourable press response (notably from John Peel of the iconic BBC Peel Sessions), Eden signed a three album deal with American label Projekt Records; resulting in the release of the Healingbow EP (1993), Fire and Rain (1995), and Midnight Sun (1996).

Eden has been reincarnated as of 2013, and are currently performing as a three piece with Sean Bowley-Kramer joined by Andrew Kutzner on guitar, and the multi-talented Talie Helene on keyboard.

HENRY HUGO

Currently based in Zürich, Henry Hugo wears many hats including multi-instrumentist, composer, sound engineer, and producer. His music is described as ranging “from classical to punk joined by deep, melancholic and daily human experiences on his lyrics.” He has recorded with the Italian band LO.MO, a duet with the Italian singer Eco (Proteus 911), and composed music for films and theatre.
